My career began at MediaSound Studios in New York City in 1976. I worked my way up from the Shipping Department to staff engineer by 1978. The staff engineers that I assisted were all the hottest guys in town including; Bob Clearmountain, Mike Barbiero, Ron St. Germain,Michael DeLugg, Ed Stasium, Godfrey Diamond, Tony Bongiovi and Harvey Goldberg.

My first big break came when I was asked to record and mix two songs with singer Luther Vandross for an R&B record called Change. Soon after, Luther approached me to record his upcoming solo album Never too Much which went on to become a Gold Record. I became Luther’s engineer and recorded all his music for the next four years including two Aretha Franklin albums.

In 1984 I flew over to London where the music scene was exploding. I met some A&R people that were willing to give me a shot at production and remixing. I soon became in demand and worked for all the major London labels until 1990 when I decided to focus on the American scene.

I went on to mix such records as the Stones' Steelwheels, New Radicals, Tony Bennett’s Grammy® Album of the YearUnplugged. I've received 7 Grammys®, including ColdPlay's Alternative Album of the Year Parachutes, John Mayer’s Best Pop Vocal Album, Continuum, ColdPlay's Best Rock Album, Viva la Vida, John Mayer - Best Engineer in Non-Classical, Battle Studies, Calle 13’s Best Latin Rock Urban or Alternative album for Multi Viral along with a Latin Grammy for Calle 13 Best Urban Album and Angelique Kidjo, Best World Music Album for Eve.

In 2010 I co-founded Mix With The Masters which allowed engineers access to great mixers in week long seminars using my philosophy of sharing our mindset and applying it to the records we mix and produce. We then introduced educational videos that allowed thousands of more engineers access to Chris Lord Algae, Tony Maserati, Joe Chiccarelli, Young Guru and many other legendary mixers. In 2021 I decided to move on and began my association with PureMix where I did an 8 part series sharing my complete ITB template and philosophy behind the approach.

In 2009 I moved to Electric Lady Studios making studio B my home for 9 years mixing many great records including Coldplay, John Mayer, GroupLove, Young the Giant and Grizzly Bear. During the last couple years at ELS, with the help of my assistant, Steve Vealey, I turned the live room into a hybrid setup replacing the console with a control surface. I got to the point where I was comfortable mixing my Brauerize® approach in this new format and felt like my mixes were more dynamic and of course recalls were so much easier to address.

In 2018 I opened my own studio, BrauerSound Studios, in New York City's Chelsea area. The main mix room became a hybrid mixing setup utilizing a 32 channel Avid S6 as the control surface along with my six racks of gear. My new mixing process became more powerful and efficient. I turned the live room into an ITB room for prepping and recalls. With the help of my assistant, Fernando Reyes, we began the process of making the complete Brauerize® template ITB

In 2020, with Covid dominating the world, I moved out of the city and setup my studio in the Catskills and went completely ITB with the exception of some of my favorite analog delays and compressors that I would immediately print.

Recent projects include Luke Combs nominated for CMA album of the year and new bands the Props and Boomboxes.
